700 Posts

Well here it is, 700 posts of creative goodness. I'm taking a slight breather to reflect on my degree course and do what has to be done for it. So they'll be limited posts for the next few days. But there's plenty here. So stay a while and enjoy Black Maths. Alot of really great designers, illustrators and photographers have gotten in touch and I truly appreciate your emails. Cheers everyone!

Kinetic Light Type

Now this is a really nice typographic exploration by Vimeo user Rob Seward. I think the contraption moves well and when combined with light, is really striking. Press play, you'll be glad you did. Via Today and Tomorrow.

Adrian Ghenie

Adrian Ghenie is a painter with an extremely dark, sinister style. Although these paintings may not make you feel on top of the world, they still inspire in a different manner. Take a look at his portfolio.

Chris Borchert

I find the photographs of Chris Borchert really pleasing. They have a unique ambiance and an interesting level of saturation. Check them out.

Starbucks Illustration

I have produced my first printed illustration recently. It's for the university newspaper Retro. I was asked to produce artwork for an article entitled 'Why People Boycott..." in this case it was why people boycott Starbucks. The article discusses how the company overworks and underpays their employees. I tried to capture a tired Starbucks worker immersed in a sea of coffee-based capitalism. It was a really nice brief to work on and is certainly something I would do again. Would love to know your comments!

Studio on Fire

I came across this really interesting studio working from Minnesota. Studio on Fire create some really nice letterpress outcomes for their clients. They say -

"Late in 1999, Studio On Fire began letterpress printing in a cold Minnesota basement. Our first press occupied a spot between the boiler and the litter box. And oh how the studio has grown – now seven presses and seven people strong with a proper studio space we celebrate ten years as a bustling design and print studio."

Take a look at their work, I think you will like it.
